Translation; FM Takeshi Iwaya answered "I don't know" in response to grilling by LH lawmaker Kaoru Nishida (JIP) = inscriptions of CW statues in Germany state that "Japanese army abducted CW"

> 岩屋毅外相は９日の衆院外務委員会で、３月にドイツで２体の慰安婦像が展示されたことについて「わが国政府の立場やこれまでの取り組みと相容れない極めて残念なことだ」と述べた。
> 日本維新の会の西田薫氏の質問に答えた。
At a Lower House Committee on Foreign Affairs on April 9, FM Takeshi Iwaya said about the fact that two comfort woman statues were displayed in Germany in March that "It's extremely regrettable which contradicts with the position of our government and the efforts we have made so far."
He answered to a question from LH lawmaker Kaoru Nishida (JIP).

> 岩屋氏は「さまざまな関係者に政府の立場を説明し、懸念を伝えてきた。今後とも関係者に適切な対応を求めていく」と政府の対応を説明。
>「ドイツ当局や（慰安婦（* "像"）が設置された）ケルン、カッセルの当局が設置したということではないので、そういうことを認めないでほしいと働きかけをしたし、これからもしていきたい」と語った。
> 慰安婦については「 これまでに日本政府が発見した資料の中には、軍や官憲によるいわゆる強制連行を直接示すような記述は見つかっていない」と改めて述べた。
Iwaya explained the government's countermeasures that "We have explained the government's position to various parties involved and conveyed our concerns. We will continue to require the parties involved to take measures appropriately."
He said that "It doesn't mean that the German authorities or the authorities in Cologne and Kassel (where CW statues were placed) erectem them there. We worked on them not to accept such matter, and we would like to continue to do so."
Concerning CW, he reiterated that "Among the documents discovered by Tokyo so far, no descriptions have been fouund which directly indicate so-called forceful taking away by the military or government authorities."

> これを受け、西田氏は「銅像の前に碑文があるが、内容を知っているか」と岩屋氏に尋ねた。
> 外務省の事務方は「承知している」と答えた。
> 西田氏が「大臣は知っているか」と重ねると、岩屋氏は「私は直接には存じない」と答えた。
> 西田氏は「知るべきだ。大きな問題だ」と批判した。
In response to that, Nishida asked Iwaya that "There are inscriptions in front of the statues. Do you know what they say?"
A Foreign Ministry administrative official replied that "We are aware of it."
When Nishida asked again that "Does the minister know?", FM Iwaya replied that "I don't have direct knowledge of it."
Nishida criticized Iwaya, saying that "You should know. It's a major problem."

> 西田氏は、外務省に碑文の資料を請求したところ英文の資料を受け取り、日本語訳の資料を求めると外務省から「提出できない」と返答があったと明らかにした。

| FoMA rejected to translate the inscriptions
LH Lawmaker Nishida (JIP) revealed that when he requested materials about the inscription from the MoFA, he received materials in English, and when he asked for a Japanese-translation, the ministry replied that "we can't provide that."
Nishida said that "I translated it. It says that [The Imperial Japanese Army abducted countless girls and women and made them into sexual slaves]" and he checked it with the MoFA, and the MoFA replied that "We have confirmed that there are descriptions like you pointed out."
Nishida complained that "(* MoFA) hesitates even to translate it. I wish them to do a better job."
Furthermore, he said to FM Iwaya that "You answered that there is no evidence of forceful taking away. (However) the comfort women statues with whom such sentences are written are still set even in nowadays. I would like you to protest to S. Korea with even stronger indignation."

FM Iwaya only said such as that "We will continuously explain our position to various parties involved and call for appropriate measures from now on too."
