shock tube

2005-06-12 15:47:52 | DIARY
There is a shock tube
continuity
momentum
isentropic(energy)
assuming a small disturbance in the flow condition (neglecting second order terms)

wave equation (disturbance propagates with a constant speed)
the form of the general solution is known for this equation (substitute it into the original wave equation to see if it works)

Old friend

2005-06-07 14:10:08 | DIARY
I just talked to a friend in Korea. She was a classmate in ESL(school for English as a second language) in Texas. So, it was four years ago that I used to hang out with her and some other friends from the English school.

Now, four years later, what has changed? Am I am more knowledgeable and independent than I was back then? Do I look more handsome or just old??? ^^; She said that she had changed a lot!? Yeah, she was a high school student at that time and just right now she was chatting online in a classroom in her university. Yep, I can see an aging process.....^^;

SLEEPY

2005-05-31 12:09:51 | DIARY
It was Memorial Day which is one of a few holidays we can enjoy during school year in U.S. Since our AC has been mulfunctioning since yesterday afternoon, our aprtment was warm during day. It made me so sleepy.
I finally went to the lab to study a little bit in the evening. I found the concept of turbine engine interesting again. Although I took a class last year, my knowledge is rusty by now. It's fun to understand how things work. I guess that's the fundamental desire all of us share in common.

Wedding

2005-05-30 02:57:10 | DIARY
I was at my friend's wedding today in River Legacy Park, where we had a picnic last weekend.
It was an international marriage. The groom was an American and the bride was Japanese. I have known them for almost four years since I started school here.
When the bride mother(Japanese) gave a gift for them in front of everybody, I was asked to translate why she chose it as a gift for them. I knew that it was kind of difficult to do that. Indeed, I did a poor job for translating. Ok, let me say that again here. I wanted to say....Let me think
She chose it as a gift so that it will bring them peace by listening to the sound that the instrument(?) create when the time of difficulties. Something like that would have done much better job. Actually, I could add more to it, but it'll be too long. So,I'll stick with it.
Anyawy, it was a good wedding.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY and FIFTH YEAR in the U.S.

2005-05-27 15:59:19 | DIARY
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR"
It was the song my two roommates and a friend of us sang for me in a car. We went out to eat to Japanese restaurant in Irving, but by the time when we got there, it was closed. Then, we went to Deney's to have some dinner on the way home.
I had so much fun with my friends and happy to be around them. When we got to the our apartement, they had another surprise for me. It was a watch that they gave me for my birthday gift. Last summer, I lost my watch and I've needed a watch. I felt so happy tonight. I wanna say "Thank you" to them.

Today is the very day when I got to the U.S. four years ago. I still remember that I was in a car right next to Ms. Debra from ESL shool driving down the cooper street. Everything around me was different from what I had known since I was born.
I wanna start my 23rd year as fresh as days four years ago when I just got here with hope and excitement. Let me keep myself a challenger all the time!!
Good luck on me!

FOOTBALL

2005-05-22 14:16:08 | DIARY
Hot day it was again. I decided to stay cool today for the whole day. When I turned on a TV, I saw a foot ball game between two teams in Germany. I was stying at the same channel for a while to watch the game. I found it to be very exciting sports. Now, I understand why a lot of Americans get so excited about this sport. FUN it is indeed!

But, I'm looking forward to seeing the Winbledon chanpionship the most this summer. It will start on June 20th. Aa a tennis-beginner, I need to check out this annual event.

PICNIC

2005-05-21 14:06:25 | DIARY
HOT, it was so hot today!
I could feel that my skin was cooked quite well. We had a picnic at the River Legacy Park, which is a big typical American park where bunch of people hang out, play sports, and do BBQ on the weekend.
The highest temperature today was 99F( 100C/180F*(99F-32F)=37.2C ), which means really hot.
We were supposed to meet up at the park at 1:00p.m. But, people finally showed up around 3:00p.m. Until then, we were searching around people for two hours in the sun.

Once people got together, we(at least I) forgot about the heat. There was a nice shade under the trees. Some people started grilling meat, and vegetable. The ohters including me put a net between two trees so that we could play the volleyball. Roughly ten of us got to play volleyball. We had so much fun today. Yey^^
