Susila Budhi Dharma・/Chapter 2 Material force and nafsu Amarah

2017-09-08 | 日記
In Susila Budhi Dharma, the relationship between force and nafsu is stated in a general form.

In other words, various forces work by receiving stimulus from the outside world, which causes various desires and motivations in people, (nafsu occurred), which leads to actions, ... It is being done.

However, in Susila Budhi Dharma there is no mention of the individual forces and the one-to-one relationship of individual nafsu.

The mention of Bapak about it is that the talk (7, 20, 1957) after about five years since receiving Susila Budhi Dharma became the first, and it will be told with multiple talks afterwards.

In those talks, Bapak told about the correspondence between the four forces and the four nafsu.

Therefore, although the contents described below are not described in Susila budhi dharma, the contents complements Susila budhi dharma.

Well, nafs is originally Islamic, as you can see from the fact that it appears in the Quran.
It has been developed and used by Islamic mystics Sufi.

Then, the word nafs was transmitted to Indonesia with Sufism, and they also developed their own unique meaning there.
That will be the word nafsu used in Java now.

The meaning of nafsu in Java represents the desires, wishes, motivations, impulses always present in people.
Then, Bapak also follows such usage.

Well, in normal life most people are moving by nafsu.
There is a motivation to do this, which is what I have to do, and then actions will occur next.

Such motivation, hope, desire, intention is called nafsu.

Then Bapak is assuming life force or Roh as the thing behind the nafsu as giving power to nafsu.
It is the explanation of Bapak that there are nine kinds of life force (Roh) in the World.

And those idea is also exist in some traditional Islam of Java.
(However, Jawa Islam does not take the position that "what gives the power to nafsu is Roh".

But they insist that Nafsu and Roh are in people and each has its own work. ) <- link

Well, the nafs originally described in the Quran were three (ammārah, luwwāmah, muṭmaʾinnah), but it was transmitted to Java and Supiah (ṣāfīyyah) was added .

Then, it seems that the first three (ammārah, luwwāmah, Supiah) are often described as people 's less desirable desires.
And only muṭmaʾinnah alone is always described as "good desire".

Well, Bapak says that the nafsu generated by material force is amarah .
ーーーーーーーーーー
First from the description of the Quran.

Again I can not say I am perfect, but the soul (of human) other than the Lord's mercy is easy to tell evil.
My Lord is tolerant and benevolent .
[Q 12: 54] ("nafs ammāra" corresponding part).

2, Red is Amarah and it leads to desire of anger

The second is Amarah , the color is red.
The place is in the gall, the door is in the ears.
The body fulfills desire and is angry easily.

Then, lastly from the explanation of Bapak with a certain talk, <--Link
The second nafsu ( passion) is Amarah and it is self-centered.
The color corresponding to nafsu (Sukma : fine body) is Red.

Then Bapak told about Nafsu Amarah with many talks.
The following will be quoted from there.
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
July 20, 1957 - Bapak
And the second nafsu that human beings have is the amarah, the nature of whose light or radiation is red.
the second, the amarah, acts blindly, not understanding what is good;

September 29, 1957 - Bapak
the second is amarah, the desire to become rich or acquire wealth for oneself;

August 6, 1959 - Bapak
the second, amarah; amarah is angkara, arrogance:

August 7, 1959 - Bapak
the second, amarah; amarah is self centeredness;

March 5, 1963 - Bapak
you can take it to mean that the passion [ammara] that always resides in your heart and mind is the desire to be right, to win, to be the cleverest, to live just for yourself;
the desire, in short, of wanting to surpass others and also to eliminate or diminish the power of others.
This being so, when you are influenced by this passion you want not because you enjoy it, but because the desire comes whether you want it or not to quarrel, to fight, to be alone or to be separate from other people;
sometimes also to be separate from your own family or from your wife or your husband.

For indeed these desires in short, of selfishness and greed are actually the kind of passion that causes human beings to fall to a lower level, and to fall very easily into an abyss of poverty within their inner feeling and their heart.

Sept 13, 1963 - Bapak
Besides aluwamah there is another kind of desire, in Indonesian called amarah.
When this desire manipulates a person it will cause them to be quarrelsome, to want to fight, to be bad tempered and self-important.

July 8, 1970 - Bapak
The nature of the nafsu of the heart and mind is aluamah and amarah, the nafsu of greed and the nafsu of anger.

August 23, 1971- Bapak
And the material force in you is expressed in the nafsu called amarah - will or desire.
Hence you cannot be rid of amarah during your lifetime.

Without a strong will, without desire, you could not buy clothes, or even make them.
Everything you do on earth is due to will or desire.
Only thereby can you be aware of right and wrong.

Even though both right and wrong are from the same will, they are a nafsu, the nafsu of truth, that is, borne by the Prophet Abraham as his symbol.

November 26, 1972 - Bapak
The nafsu is very useful to you in order to provide you with energy; energy to work and to earn a living in this world.

May 27, 1976 - Bapak
Such people are still influenced and still defiled by the lower forces and the nafsu amarah and the nafsu angkara (anger and arrogance).

November 20, 1976 - Bapak
But the amarah is in turn also filled with many various forms of karep or will; anger and greed, the wish to be rich or clever or famous, the wish to live for oneself alone, the wish for one's own comfort and pleasure.

June 18, 1981 - Bapak
There are nafsu of Aluamanah, amarah, supiah and then, mut-mainah.
The first two are the nafsu of greed and anger.

The nafsu of the person who wants to win, who wants to defeat others, who wants always to be on top, and to be better than other people.

May 9, 1985 - Bapak
The nafsu called the nafsu amarah ( nafsu of greed and anger ) - which always torments mankind, causing them very much to enjoy and be accustomed to fighting, and to have no feeling at all for the needs of other people, but only for their own needs, to like oppressing people and taking away their freedom and independence - that nafsu is actually the material nafsu which is called the nafsu raiwani.
It is very closely connected with human beings with the human mind.

June 17, 1985 - Bapak
we are always obstructed and disturbed by the action of the nafsu amarah, or the nafsu of the material forces.

June 24, 1985 - Bapak
Nafsu comes in several categories and the first nafsu is the nafsu amarah, which is the nafsu which causes conflict, quarrelling, disagreements, hatred, dislike and so on, which causes people to be in a state of conflict, dislike and disharmony.

One's own needs.
The nafsu amarah, which as Bapak says, causes conflicts, originates from the existence the material life forces.

July 12, 2001 - Ibu
The red one likes to work.

February 28, 2002 - Ibu
the red one gives us enthusiasm to work, the red one is called amarah,

March 3, 2002 - Ibu
the passion amarah is portrayed as red, the red one makes you like to work,

November 25, 2002 - Ibu
The second one is called amarah and has the nature to work and this means that human beings must work.
So it is a mistake for someone to say they don't want to work, because it's part of human nature to work, to enjoy working.

25th February, 2005 -ibu
Then there is the passion amarah, our desire to work.

PS
For your information
From "Sedulur Papat Limo Pancer In Kejawen Philosophy"<--Link
Amarah lust is related to the desire to maintain self-esteem, anger, emotions, etc.
It is said that this appetite is influenced by the nature of heat / fire that form the body of manusia(human).

PS
Originally the nafs described in the Quran are thought to be ammārah, luwwāmah, muṭmaʾinnah.

And we understand that each shows the state of each person who believes in Islam.

When it becomes Sufism, Nafs is treated like a staircase of consciousness that one experiences when training.

According to it, it starts with ammārah first, it goes through luwwāmah to muṭmaʾinnah.

In this case, each nafs is treated as indicating the stage of development of the soul (or the stage of development of consciousness).

Therefore, there is no simultaneous existence of two or more nafs among one trainee.

This is a big difference between nafsu generally recognized in Java and nafs treated in Sufism.

So in Java, there is a legend that " everyone is born with four spiritual brothers", and there was a history that Sufism's nafs was absorbed as a development form of it.

Nafs ṣāfīyyah was attached to nafs which had only three in the absorption process, and this system called "4 nafsu" specific to Java was completed.

And so, in Java, there were always four nafsu at the same time in one person.

Then again Bapak was supposed to explain Latihan using the concept of "four nafsu that always present in people".
