オバマ米大統領の東京演説が話題になりましたね。

演説の最初の方に、「阿弥陀仏」が出てきたのには驚きました！！

ちょっとその部分を見てみましょう。

It is wonderful to be back in Japan.

Some of you may be aware that when I was a young boy,

my mother brought me to Kamakura,

where I looked up at that centuries-old symbol of peace and tranquility --

the great bronze Amida Buddha.

And as a child, I was more focused on the matcha ice cream.

And I want to thank Prime Minister Hatoyama for sharing some of those

memories with more ice cream last night at dinner.

Thank you very much.

But I have never forgotten the warmth and the hospitality

that the Japanese people showed a young American far from home.

拙い訳文ですが、こんな感じでしょうか？

日本にまたこれて凄く嬉しい。

子供のころ、母親が鎌倉へ連れていってくれました。

そのとき、何世紀もの間、平和と静寂(安定）の象徴であり続ける阿弥陀仏の仏像を

見上げました。

子供だった私は抹茶アイスクリームの方が関心あったのですが。（笑）

昨晩の食事にもアイスクリームが出て、この思い出を共有できた鳩山首相に
感謝したい。

本当にありがとう。

（あの時）故郷から遠く離れた若いアメリカ人に、日本の人たちが与えてくれた
温かいもてなしを忘れたことはありません。
