How did you spend GW?

Golden Week (GW), which is consecutive national holidays of May in Japan, was over before I knew it. During this week, here and there, everywhere is crowded with people who go out to have a good time with a family. It has been thought in Japan that holidays of Japanese people are less than Westerners, and we regard the consecutive holidays as very precious ones and figuratively call the week gold, which somewhat sounds as if in self-mockery for me.

Meanwhile some people do not want to go all the way to crowded places and prefer to stay near the house during the week and take time to do hobbies such as gardening, seeing films and so on. It may be a wise choice.

Furthermore I recommend you to go away from a city where you live if you can have a chance to take a longer vacation, because, the farther you go away from the city, the more strongly you must feel a kind of liberation from daily odds jobs. This feeling can not be got by the aforementioned entertainments.

I and my wife are living in Tokyo. When we considered how we should spend GW, what occurred to our minds was to visit Hakone, because it is relatively close to Tokyo and is surrounded by beautiful natural settings. And it is a very popular Onsen Hot Springs Resort area.

We made a one day trip to Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, a hot springs spa resort and water amusement park. We left the Shinjuku station at around 9:00 by train, Odakyu Romance car, and reached the Hakone-yumoto station at around 10:00. We changed a train to one of Hakone Tozan railway, which went up the steep slope (80/1000) by repeating a switch back three times to Gora station. The announcement in the train said that a slope of 80/1000 is No.1 in Japan and No.2 even in the world. We got on a bus for a while and reached to the destination soon .

Yunessun provides a wide variety of spa resort services and water attractions for both adults and children, along with a very large shopping mall called the Mio Mall showcasing local products from Hakone. Yunessun is divided into two resort zones. One resort zone is called the Yunessun Spa Resort, a more public and family oriented place where you are required to wear swimsuits. The other resort zone is called Mori No Yu which allows you to enjoy a hot springs attractions in beautiful natural settings without a swimsuit. Mori NO YU resort zone is a relaxing bathing space, sectioned into private areas for women and for men, where you can enjoy Onsen, or hot springs, in the traditional Japanese style. In the Mori No Yu Zone, you can enjoy the bathing experience.

As our trip was a one-day trip, we did not have enough time to enjoy the Yunessun Spa Resort, but only Mori NO YU. However, we could really have a pleasant time. We had a soak in the outdoor bathtub as long as we could and got out of it to cool down the body. We repeated this, which is the right ritual to enjoy the outdoor bathtub. The time is the spring when birds are singing and flowers are blooming. It was also very tasteful that a flower petal of cherry blossom was floating on the surface of the spa. We could not expect more. GW was over, however, why don’t you go to a relatively far hot spring for liberation? Then, we receive no money from Hakone Kowakien Yunessun for PR, though, I want to tell you that the spa is wonderful and must be worth visiting.
