I believe the love story
of the Empress

緑陰や鳥語つかへる女帝塚
in the shade of green...
chirping in pure tones,
birds are attending


道鏡配流の地
風涼し戒壇院の六辺に
cool breezes...
around the six sides
of Kaidanin (temple giving Rank for monks)



道鏡の気配動かぬ夏の堂
Monk Dokyo's air
has been still lingering there,
at a summer temple hall

the first shrine,
the sound of snow sliding off,
and then, again...

ゴンドラの海彦号に雪の越
by gondola, Umihiko-go,
snow plains of Koshi
stretching below

佐渡を見る長靴並ぶ雪の駅
to see Sado Island
snow-boots are arranged
at the top-station



雪雲に佐渡を預けて山降りる
leaving Sado island
with the snow-clouds,
I decend the mountain


宝光寺｛荒海や・・）
雪靴の歩幅をたどり翁の碑
in the snow
to the mounment of Basho, the haiku master
foot-prints' following

角巻の緋色に包む海の音
what I tuck in
with a scarlet Kakumaki,
is the sound of the sea

to worship the coolness

橋下に吸われる心青嶺光（あおねこう）
my heart is taken
into the valley under the bridge,
brightness of green mountains



馬頭観音涼しき耳を持てるかな
so cool ears
kannon deity for horses
has had !

苔の花すべらぬように太鼓橋
moss flowers...
be careful on the drum bridge
not to slip !



（松崎宿と二本木宿）
妙高号ｽｲｯﾁﾊﾞｯｸや青野原
the train, Myoko-go,
comes up using switchback system
through green field


忍冬（すいかずら）だらだら長き下り坂
honey suckle flowes...
a long long slope
trailing down

（新井宿）
十薬や地蔵の頬に残る紅
Juyaku flowers...
on the cheeks of Jizo deity,
left some rouge

時々は蛙も鳴くぞ一茶像
