Intersil Launched First Full HD LCD Video Processor

Intersil, a leading global provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced the availability of the industry's first full HD LCD video processor designed for automotive applications with the latest generation of automotive SoCs, the world's leading semiconductor solutions provider, Renesas Electronics Co., Ltd. The highly integrated TW8844 is built on Intersil's industry-leading automotive infotainment and display systems and is the first high-definition (HD) 1080p LCD video with analog video decoders, two scalar and MIPI-CSI2 SoC interfaces processor.

TW8844 provides the high reliability required by the car manufacturer to ensure that the rear view camera system complies with the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS-111) and prevents reversal accidents resulting in casualties. TW8844 can help achieve the transition from analog to digital camera systems and supports many video interfaces and up to 1920 x 1080 Full HD LCD panel resolution. The TW8844 LCD video processor is ideal for automotive center console / stereo ontologies, full-screen mirrors, combined instrument displays and double headrest rear seat entertainment systems.

Global carmakers are beginning to have rear view camera systems for new models. "The TW884x freeze detection feature uses a hard-wired approach to trigger an interrupt signal in the event of a threshold violation to ensure that the rearview camera meets the FMVSS-111 regulatory requirements and displays live video in real time," said Philip Chesley, senior vice president of precision products at Intersil.
