Japan-U.S. Relations: Issues for Congress
Comments and actions on controversial historical issues by Prime Minister Abe and his cabinet
have raised concern that Tokyo could upset regional relations in ways that hurt U.S. interests.
There is also the danger that Abe’s views on history could clash with Americans’ conception of
the U.S. role in World War II and the subsequent occupation of Japan.
