カナダにいると美の基準が金髪で青い眼の女性であって、アジア人は余所者、アウトサイダーだと思われている。
小さいときから、Chink poor dirty girl と言われ続ければ、ああ、私って、そうなんだ、と思いこみ始める、と。
（で、まぶたを”西洋風”に整形手術するというドキュメンタリー）
この現象を理解するには、欧米では、
といった信念体系が一部にあることを理解しておくべきで、
アジア系アメリカ人、アジア系カナダ人は、3）の想定を前提にして、馬鹿にしている、と思っているのか、あるいは、偏見を助長している、として、こうしたものまねに憤慨しているのかもしれない。
そもそもつり目が低い評価を受けていなければ、憤慨のしようがない。
上記動画のアジア系カナダ人が整形手術をするのが悪いとはいわない。日本人でも”美しく”なりたくて、手術を受ける人もいる。それで、気が済むならそれも一つの方法。
しかし、まあ、美の基準というのは歴史・社会に依存して、コロコロ変わるものでもある。
一重まぶたがかっちょいい、と思われていたこともあったし、小麦色の肌がいいと思われていた時代もある。
他人のファッションを追随する人は、もっと、自分がファッションリーダーになるという意識をもったらどうだろうか？
ついでに、かっちょいい、はげ、というイメージを流行らす漢はいないものか？
ファッション業界もちょっとかんがえてみてほしい。
とかなってフサフサのひともあえてはげファッションを真似るようになったりして。

Hardly all that hypocritical since it seems that Asian-Americans are more offended by this than native Japanese are. In any case, I got a bit of an eighties flashback as the model looks like a mix between Michael Jackson and Boy George. Gave me the shivers, to be honest.

Dr. Jeff Denis, a recent Harvard graduate and now assistant professor of sociology at McMaster University in Hamilton, presented his Ph.D. dissertation, “Canadian Apartheid: Boundaries and Bridges in Aboriginal-White Relations,” last night at the Métis Hall here.
He provided an overview of his 453-page dissertation, completed in May and based on research Dr. Denis conducted in Rainy River District from 2007-09, including 18 months of field work, 160 in-depth interviews and surveys, and a Photovoice project with First Nations, Métis, and white residents.
Dr. Denis’ goal was to assess the degree to which general theories of race relations develop out of contact.
The sociological “contact hypothesis” suggests that as groups interact over time, stereotypes will break down and prejudice will disappear. While this hypothesis has been supported by hundreds of studies, it also has been criticized for ignoring the collective and institutionalized basis for discrimination.
“My research does not refute the contact hypothesis, but rather extends and defines it by showing how, under certain conditions, contact can co-exist with prejudice,” he explained.
“Although contact may reduce old-fashioned prejudice or overt categorical hostility, that does not necessarily diminish the superior sense of group positioning that underlies laissez-faire racism and thereby maintain the status quo.”
Dr. Denis said that “overt categorical hostility” is the notion that “Indians are bad” while “superior sense of group positioning” is a notion that, in this case white people, feel they are entitled to higher status and resources, and fear that another group is threatening their place.

Imam Zafar Bangash of the Islamic Society of York Region, said the U.S. president “would rather have Americans starve to death, but he cannot say no to the Zionist parasitical state.”
He referred to the United States as a “stooge government” and to Barack Obama as “this black man in the White House.”
As rally participants waved flags of Hezbollah – a banned terrorist organization – Bangash went on to call Zionists “racist,” “inhuman,” and “barbarians.”
Maulana Asad Jafri, described as a Khomeinist student from Qoms, Iran, said “whenever you see injustice happen, there is a one per cent, two per cent, 100 per cent involvement by the Zionist regime, the same Zionist regime that sucks the resources, the blood and everything that belongs to the people all across the world.”
Another speaker refers to Israel as a spreading cancer that either dies, taking the host body with it, or is itself killed.

Update: Vancouver Man Gets 4 Years For Racial Attack
In January 2010, Zachary Beck and two other white supremacists attacked a black man in a downtown Vancouver sports bar, yelling, “White Power!” “You’re dead!” and racist slurs.
On Friday, Beck learned the consequences of hate and civil-rights crimes: U.S. District Court in Tacoma sentenced him to 51 months’ prison, according the Justice Department.

De Silvestro tried to come into the United States last week to participate at the IndyCar race in Sonoma, California. An agent working for US Customs became concerned over frequent trips from country to country that the 23-year-old racer had been taking as of late, and when de SIlvestro tried to explain herself, the official refused to believe that the woman was a professional racer.
Instead of hearing her out, the US official sent de Silvestro back to Switzerland and said she had to stay there for two months. She remained optimistic, however, and joked with reporters at SPEED.com, “I should go enjoy some time at home,” anyway

As a world traveler, IZOD IndyCar Series sophomore Simona de Silvestro had one of the more interesting adventures of her young life between the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma last weekend and the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix, which kicked off today.
Turned away by a customs agent after landing in the USA last Thursday, de Silvestro was sent back to her native Switzerland before making a second, successful attempt to re-enter the country for the Baltimore street race.
As a wise-beyond-her-years 23-year-old, de Silvestro had a good laugh about the experience that also added to her frequent flyer miles.
