Delahaye 175S Saoutchik 1949 by Chrome

だいぶ前に入手した、Ilario の Chrome ブランドの Delahaye 175S Saoutchik 1949 です。鼻先がとがってて変なデザインだよなあ、と思ってましたが、Supercars.net の解説によれば、前年にデビューした Figoni e Falaschi の Narval と言う車からヒントを得てるとか。写真の角度から見ると波を蹴立てて進むボートのようで、なかなかよいデザインです。

モデルのフィニッシュは高品質で、クロームもきれいに磨かれてます。透明なステアリングホイールがきれいな円になってないのが残念ですが、それ以外は非常によくできているモデルです。この手の車は、今は無き HECO が得意としてましたが、Ilario が見事に継いでくれましたね。

This the model of Delahaye 175S Saoutchik 1949 from Ilario's Chrome brand. First I wasn't fan of the pointed hood which was inspired by Figoni e Faraschi Narval, according to Supercars.net. Then looking at the model as shown in the picture, it looks like a boat on the wakes of fenders. Very clever and attractive, I say.

This is very nicely finished model with lots of flawless chromes. Too bad the steering wheel looks like triangle, otherwise this model would have been perfect. Heco Minatures produced this kind of car and too bad they are no longer, but I'm glad that we have Ilario.

Blade Runner Police Spinner by Mediacom Toy

先月 Hobby Link Japan で予約した、メディアコム・トイ製のブレードランナーのポリス・スピナーが届きました。ブルーレイディスクとのセット商品ですが、当然お目当てはスピナーのほうです。ブルーレイプレーヤー買ってこなきゃ（笑）。

スケールについての記述がありませんが、大体1/18スケールくらいのようです。シザードア開閉と、前輪の走行形態と飛行形態に変形のギミックがあります。内装は相当に大雑把で、ダッシュボード、コンソール、シートなどの位置がわかる程度です。それでもオフィシャルの版権の元でリリースされるスピナーのモデルはなかなか無い様で貴重です。

Few days ago I got the police spinner from the movie "Blade Runner" made by Mediacom Toy. I ordered this at Hobby Link Japan last month. This model comes with Blu-Ray disc, but first I need to get Blu-Ray disc player :)

There's no mention about the scale, but it looks like 1/18th. The scissor doors open and the front wheels can switch between driving and flying mode. The interior detail is minimal - dashboard, console and seats can be identified, but that's it. regardless of almost non-existent interior, this model must be appreciated by fans as there doesn't seem many models released under official licence.

EMC Horch 853 Voll & Ruhrbeck

しばらく前にリリースされた EMC のホルヒです。実車は 2009年のぺブルビーチ・コンコース・デレガンスで優勝しています。いつもならウクライナのディーラーさんから買うところですが、このモデルはアメリカの B&G モデルスの独占販売になってます。この B&G モデルスさん、どこに広告を出しているのかまったくわからず、YouTube のビデオでようやくメールアドレス(msbash@gmail.com)がわかった次第です。

モデルは相変わらずの超高品質です。前回入手した５４０Ｋスペシャルロードスターも凄い作りこみでしたが、今回のホルヒも、きれいに磨きこまれた数々のクロームパーツやモール、プレスで作られたと思しきバンパー、その上のリベットまで、とても量産品（YouTube のビデオによればオープンが200台、クローズが90台）とは思えない作りこみです。お値段も相当なもの(365ドル)ですが、これはここ数年のドル安も大きな原因ですね。

This is a model of Horch 853 by EMC I got a couple of months ago. The real car won Best of Show award at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2009. Usually I'd get EMC Models from a ukrainian dealer, but B&G models in USA sells this particular model exclusively. B&G models don't have web site and I had hard time finding information. Finally I found the contact information (msbash@gmail.com) in a YouTube video.

This another super high quality model from EMC. Mercedes 540K Special Roadster, the EMC model I got last time, was nothing short of amazing. This Horch is no exception and has tons of details which are not found in regular factory built models - beautifully polished chrome parts and trims, the bumpers look like pressed metal sheets, and it even has minute rivets for the bumper stays. It understantably carries one of the most expensive price tag (365 USD) for a factory built model, but part of it is likely because of devaluation of US dollar.

この間 IXO のミニカー (Audi R10 と Simca Huit Gordini) を 買いました。台座からはずして飾ろうと思ってねじを見てみると、以前は普通のプラスまたはマイナスねじだったと思うのですが、この2つはなぜか三角形の穴のねじで留められてました。このタイプのねじはマクドナルドなどの子供用のおまけのおもちゃに使われてるのを見たことがあります。分解されたパーツによる誤飲事故を防ぐ、と言う意味があるんでしょうが、ダイキャストミニカーを台座からはずしてほしくない理由って何でしょうか。

先が三角のドライバーも売っていますが、買うのも馬鹿らしいので真鍮棒の先を適当にヤスリで削って手製ドライバーを作ってはずしました。

I bought these IXO model cars (Audi R10 & Simca Huit Gordini). The IXO models used be attached to the base by regular philip (or slot) screws, but screw with triangular hole are used for these models. I've seen this screw used for the toys that comes with fast food kids meal. I understand such toys need to be tamper resistant, but die-cast models?

There are screw drivers available for this type of screws, but I made one by myself out of some brass rod and saved few bucks.

My 250 GTO on Contest Cars 2009 magazine

２ヶ月ぶりのご無沙汰です。ここのところずっと仕事が忙しく模型製作に時間がほとんど取れてません。来週からクリスマス休暇になるので一息つけそうですが、来年はさらに忙しくなりそうだといわれてます(泣)。本サイトでの製作記、ほとんど進展がありませんが一応更新は続けていこうと思ってます。

と近況報告は以上で。しばらく前に発売された「Scale Auto」誌の「Contest Cars 2009」に、GSL XXII(Part 1 / Part 2) に出展した フェラーリ250GTO の写真が載りました。やはり目立つカラーリングと250GTOという人気の素材が功を奏したのでしょうか。小さい写真ですが、本に載るとうれしいですね。

It's been two months since the last post. I've been quite busy at work and didn't get much time for model building. I'll have one and a half week Christmas vacation which will help to make some progress on my current project. But I was told we'll be even busier next year :( Oh well. That's my status.

A while ago I found a picture of my model at GSL XXII (Part 1 / Part 2) was on the magazine "Contest Cars 2009". I guess the subject and the color scheme helped itself to be picked up. It's a small picture but I'm glad to see my model got some coverage :)

Two EMC models

先日緑龍館さんのサイトを見ていたら、EMC の新作モデル、メルセデス500K スペツィアルロードスターに関しての記事がありました。早速 EMC にコンタクトを取り、ウクライナのディーラーさん経由でモデルを入手しました。

私のモデルはシルバーでシリアルナンバーが19（全30台）。ナンバープレートから察するに、元バーニー・エクレストン所有の個体のようですが、エクレストンの車は 540K で、モデルのラベルには 500K と書いてあるのでよくわかりません。ともかく、いつもながらのすばらしい仕上がりのモデルです。前後バンパーやヘッドライト周りの造作、リアデッキについている小さなフック（何に使うかわかりませんが）など、量産モデルでは難しそうなところまで丁寧に作ってあります。300ドル以上しますが、このゴージャスな車がEMCクオリティで手に入る幸せ。

ほかにもディーラーさんのところにストックがあった、BMW 502 Autenrieth （オーテンリース？）カブリオレのモデルも一緒に入手しました。調べたところ Authenrieth はドイツのコーチビルダーで BMW やオペルの車にカスタムボディを架装していた会社のようです。リアライトが塗装表現になっているのが少し残念ですが、やはりすばらしいモデルです。

EMC から教えてもらいましたが、過去のモデルのほとんどは mDiecast.com で見れるそうです。以前にご紹介したメルセデス 540K "ヴァンダービルト"やマセラティ・カムシン（いずれも Vertex ブランド）もリストにあります。私も作ったことのあるポルシェ 718 F2（ロールバーとキャブレター用のグリルがあるので本当は F1 のはず）もあります。ウィンドシールドとボディのつなぎ目や前ホイールの星型パターンなど、私ができなかった部分も見事に再現されてます。EMC のすごさを改めて実感しました。

A couple of weeks ago I found an article at Green Dragon site about EMC's new model, Mercedes 500K Special Roadster. I contacted EMC and got mine through a Ukrainian dealer.

I got silver version. The serial number says 19 out of 30 total. According to the license plate, it seems the model of ex-Bernie Ecclestone car, though his car is 540K. The model finish is excellent as other EMC models are. There are many details such as front and rear bumpers, headlight stay structures or very small hooks (I don't know what they are) on the rear deck, which would be simplified or omitted in regular model. Although it's expensive (over 300 USD), I'm very glad that I can own high quality miniature replica of the exceptional car.

I also got BWM 502 Autenrieth Cabriolet model. According to some article Autenrieth was a German coachbuilder who built bodies for BMW or Opel cars. I wish they could have used clear parts for the real light than simply painting them. Otherwise this is also an excellent model of rather rare subject.

EMC game me a link (mDiecast.com) where most of their models can be viewed. The list shows the models I wrote about; Mercedes 540K 'Vanderbilt' and Maserati Khamsin (both under Vertex brand). There's also Porsche 718 F2 (actually must be F1 as it has roll bar and grill over the carburetors), which I've alo build based on Starer kit. The model accurately reproduces details which I couldn't do in my model, such as the black strip at the bottom of the windshield or the star-shaped pattern on the front brake drum. I can attest EMC is indeed a superb model maker.

White Elephant

先日、写真真ん中のテクノモデルの完成品、フェラーリ 365 P2、通称ホワイトエレファントを eBay で手に入れました。この車は普通のP2だったのですが、1966年のクラッシュのあとにピエロ・ドロゴによって特徴あるロングテールのボディを架装されてます。このモデルは67年ルマン出走時のものです。最近の不景気のせいなのか、単に人気が無いだけなのか、120ドル弱と定価にくらべてかなり安く手に入りました。シフトレバーが挽き物だったり、クオリティは非常に高いです。

写真奥のピンク色のキットは、eBay で買った Top Model のキット（1966年仕様）で、箱には Le Mans 43 と銘打ってあります。内容はスターターレベルのベーシックなもので、モールドもぼんやりしてます。ボディプロポーションは悪くないですが、テクノの完成品のレベルに持っていくには相当な努力が必要そうです。1966年仕様は北澤さんがスターターのキットを作られてましたね。

ここで「ホワイト・エレファント」に関連した（どうでもよい）話をいくつか。
１．このモデルを見るたびに、イタリアのバンド、アレアの曲 "L'elefante Bianco" が頭の中で回ります。
２．曲は "L'elefante Bianco" ですが、モデルのネームプレートは "Elefantino Bianco"となってます。後者は "Little white elephant" という意味らしいです。
３．車の情報を探すのに "White Elephant" で検索してたら、ウィキペディアにあたりました。「捨てたいけれども捨てられない厄介なもの」という意味があるそうです。会社の同僚数人に聞いてみたところ、いらないクリスマスプレゼントなどをみんなで交換しあう「ホワイトエレファント・エクスチェンジ」というのは知ってる、という回答でした。勉強になりました。

さてモデルの話に戻りまして、手前のキットもやはりテクノモデルのものです。バルケッタによると、こちらは同じ車両（シャーシ番号0838）が67年のルマンのあとにドロゴによって再度新しいボディを載せられたものだそうです。テクノモデルのサイトによると、ボディは赤なのでもうホワイトエレファントではないですね。こちらのドロゴの情報を集めたサイトの写真では、キットよりももっと鼻が伸びて見えます。

ドロゴのほかの車は上のサイトのほかにも、フェラーリチャットのドロゴスレッドでも見れます（写真を見るにはログインが必要です）。07979GT のようにかなり変態な車もありますが、3405GT、3445GT、1717GTなどは個人的にかっこいいと思います。

Recently I got Tecnomodel's Ferrari 365 P2 "White Elephant" at eBay. The car started as a regular 365 P2. After the crash in 1966 it received unique long tail body by Piero Drogo. This model livery is of 1967 Le Mans. I got this car relatively cheap (less than $120). I just wonder if it's because of the economy or the model isn't just popular. The quality is very high - for example turned aluminum is used for shift knob.

The pink kit (1966 Le Mans) at the far end is by Top Model, though the box says "Le Mans 43". The kit is very basic - comparable to Starter's or less, and molding is dull. Although the overall shape isn't bad, it'll require lots of work to make it to the same level as Tecnomodel's. Mr. Kitazawa had built Starter kit a while ago.

Some topics related to "White Elephant".
1. Every time I look at this model, I think of the song "L'elefante Bianco" by an Italian Band, Area.
2. The name plate of the model says "Elefantino Bianco". It translates into "Little white elephant".
3. At Wikipedia I learned what "White Elephant" means, but my colleagues who are native English speaker didn't know the definition. They told me about

Back to the models, the last one is by Tecnomodel too. According to Barchetta, this is the same car (chassis #0838) received another body by Drogo after 1967 Le Mans. The model is painted in red in the picture at Tecnomodel's site, so it was no longer White Elephant. The nose in the picture at this site looks rather longer than kit.

Other than the above site, there are lots of pictures of the cars done by Drogo in the Drogo thread at FerrariChat.com (you need to login to the site to see the pictures). Some of their car look down right ugly like 07979GT, but there are several cool looking cars such as 3405GT, 3445GT or 1717GT.

Ebbro Porsche 908 & 910

最近買ったエブロのポルシェ（とホンダ３６０クローラー）です。抑揚の効いた流線型のボディ、やはりこのころのスポーツレーシングカーはかっこいいです。908 の鼻先がオレンジ色なのは、スポンサーのシェルの国、オランダのナショナルカラーだからでしょうか。

ダイキャストは大抵 EWA や eBay で手に入れるのですが、今回はダンケダンケコムという発送代行業者を使ってみました。仕組みとしては、インターネットなどで日本のショップから商品を買って代行業者に送ると、指定の海外転送先に再発送してくれる、というものです。今回かかった費用はダイキャスト5つで 14500円、日本からアメリカへの送料が EMS で 3200円（重量1.35Kg）、業者の手数料が1200円でした。送料が高いですが、それでも eBay で買うよりは２割くらい安くすんだと思います。ダンケダンケコムには英語のサービスもあるようですが、どうにかして国内の通販を済ませなければならないのが日本語を話せない人にとって一番のネックでしょうね。

I bought these Ebbro's Porsche (and Honda 360 crawler) diecasts recently. Sports racing car from this period is so sexy and is one of my favorites. I wonder if the front end of Porsche 908 is painted in orange because the national color of the sponser (Shell, Netherlands).

I usually buy diecasts from EWA or eBay, but this time I tried DankeDanke.com, a mail / package forwarding service. You buy things from shop online, then send the package to DankeDanke.com and they'll forward it to you. The details of the costs for these models were: 14500 YEN for five diecasts, 3200 YEN for shipping (a package of 1.35Kg via EMS), and 1200 YEN for the service fee. The shipping is rather expensive, still I could get them about 20% less than getting through eBay. The service is available in English, but the biggest obstacle for non-Japanese-speaking people will be to deal with Japanese shop.

'57 UFO

今年3月の NNL West で展示されていた'57 UFO というタイトルの作品、オリジナルなのか、何かが元になっているのか謎だったですが、eBay の "1/43 Handbuilt Builders and Collectors Group"のメンバーから情報をいただきました。60年代にやっていたアメリカのテレビ番組"Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea"(邦題：原子力潜水艦シービュー号)の中に登場する フライング・サブのキットを元に、1/16 '57 シボレー のキットを足したものだろう、ということです。

元キットの画像と照らし合わせてどう改造したかを見ると、改めて作者のセンスの良さに感心します。アイデア、完成度ともに秀でたとても素晴らしい作品だと思います。

I've been wondering about the origin of the model '57 UFO displayed at NNL West 2008, but finally got information from a member of "1/43 Handbuilt Builders and Collectors Group" at eBay. According to the guy, the base model is a kit of Flying Sub that appeared in a '60 American TV show "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", plus probably 1/16th scale kit of '57 Chevy.

As I compare the picture of the original kit and the finished model, I'm impressed again by the builder's creativity and superb execution. A masterpiece in my book.

Autobarn Porsche 356 Coupe

The other day I received a email from Autobarn. It's about Porsche 356 Coupe specially built for Autobarn, limited to 20 sets. The model is done by MR Collection Models with separate engine on stand. With special case it's $600. I've already bought regular model ($570) from them, so I'm not going to buy this one. For just $30 more, you get this much nicer set...
