Tamper resistant screw

この間 IXO のミニカー (Audi R10 と Simca Huit Gordini) を 買いました。台座からはずして飾ろうと思ってねじを見てみると、以前は普通のプラスまたはマイナスねじだったと思うのですが、この2つはなぜか三角形の穴のねじで留められてました。このタイプのねじはマクドナルドなどの子供用のおまけのおもちゃに使われてるのを見たことがあります。分解されたパーツによる誤飲事故を防ぐ、と言う意味があるんでしょうが、ダイキャストミニカーを台座からはずしてほしくない理由って何でしょうか。

先が三角のドライバーも売っていますが、買うのも馬鹿らしいので真鍮棒の先を適当にヤスリで削って手製ドライバーを作ってはずしました。

I bought these IXO model cars (Audi R10 & Simca Huit Gordini). The IXO models used be attached to the base by regular philip (or slot) screws, but screw with triangular hole are used for these models. I've seen this screw used for the toys that comes with fast food kids meal. I understand such toys need to be tamper resistant, but die-cast models?

There are screw drivers available for this type of screws, but I made one by myself out of some brass rod and saved few bucks.

F1 driver figures by Craft10

しばらく前に eBay で、Craft10 という会社が出している F1 ドライバーのフィギュアを見つけました。ネットを検索してもほとんど情報がありませんでしたが、ためしに 1/43 のセナとシューマッハを買ってみました。写真はこちらです。フィギュアに関してまったく知識はないのですが、とてもよくできてると思います。複数のスケールで同じフィギュアを出しているので、CAD か何か使っているのかと思いましたが、出品者に聞いたところ手彫りなのだそうで。すっげー。

Yahoo のメールグループなどにメールを出してみましたが、思いのほか反応悪かったです。皆さんあまりフィギュアには興味ないですかね？

While ago at eBay I found figures of F1 drivers produced by Craft10. I couldn't find information in internet but I took a chance and bought the figures of Senna and Schumacher in 1/43 scale. The pictures of the figures are here. I have no knowledge about figures but they look very good. I thought they used CAD to create the master patterns since they release the same figure in multiple scales. But Craft10 told me these figures are hand carved. Very impressive skill!

I posted to Yahoo mail group about these figures but got very little response, kind of surprise to me. I guess not many modelers are interested in figures?

Kirkland Concours d'Elegance 2010

9月12日にカークランド市で開催された、カークランド・コンコース・デレガンス 2010 に行ってきました。写真はこちらです。

車のイベントに行くと、たいてい駐車場に面白い車が停まっています。今回はテスラ・ロードスター2台とミアータ・イタリア2(マツダ・ロードスター+カスタムボディキット)がいました。

今年のショーのテーマはフォードのレーシングカーで、GT40、シェルビー・コブラ、デイトナクーペ、GT350　が来てました。好きな人にはたまらないでしょうねえ。個人的な今年の目玉はアルファ・ロメオ8C2900スパイダーとドライエ135でした。でたー！美しいー！このあたりの車はやはりコンコースの花形です。パシフィック・ノースウエスト・ヒストリクスでよく見るアルファ・ロメオTZ1も来てました。ボディにも書いてありますが、スターリング・モスが以前に持ってた車なんですね。

この投稿の一番下に今回写真を撮った車のリスト（アルバムへのリンク）を載せました。朝にフル充電していったカメラの電池も夕方には切れてしまいました。ドライエのインテリアをとり損ねたのがとても残念。今年はドライエがベスト・オブ・ショーに選ばれました。

I went to Kirkland Concours d'Elegance 2010 on September 12th. The pictures are here.

You can always find interesting cars in general parking lot of this kind of events. This time there were two Tesla Roadsters and a Miata Italia 2 (Mazda MX-5 w/ custom body kit).

The theme of this year's show was Racing Ford. There were GT40, Shelby Cobra, Daytona Coupe, and GT350. Must be very exiting view for the fans of these cars. My favorites this year were Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Spider and the Delahaye 135M by Figoni et Falaschi. Such amazing & beautiful cars! The Alfa Romeo TZ1 I saw in Pacific Northwest Historics were also there. As written on the body it's ex-Starling Moss car.

The following is the list of the cars of which I took picures. I took so many pictures that I ran out of battery by the end of the show. Too bad I couldn't take pictures of the interior of the Delahaye. The Delahaye won Best of Show award.

Bosica Speedster kit is finally released!

８ヶ月ぶりのご無沙汰です。本サイトのほうにも書きましたが、仕事が多忙を極め、とても模型を作れる気分ではありませんでした。ようやく仕事が落ち着き、製作再開となりました。

と書いても検索エンジン以外にいまでもここを訪れる人がいるのかはなはだ疑問ですが、まずは最近のトピック。緑龍館さんがすでにご紹介されてますが、先月ついにボシカのスピードスターのキットが発売されました。ボシカ氏が15年以上かけて開発するも完成に至らず、お蔵入りになってしまうところをラクーンさんが見つけて、足りないパーツを追加してめでたく発売となった製品です。待っていた皆さん、ラクーンさんに感謝しましょう。

公式の写真はこちらです。私も写真を撮りました。ボディは電気鋳造、金属板をプレスしたと思われるシャーシ、バックミラーやライセンスプレートのケース、真鍮ロストワックス製のフロントサスはステアリングホイールと連動とどのパーツを見ても驚きの連続です。ちなみにボシカ氏は可動ソフトトップまで考えていたようですが、キットには反映されませんでした。完成しなかった理由のひとつだったんでしょうかね。

It's been a quite while since the last post. As I wrote in my site I've been way too busy to build models. Finally things settled down and now I'm back on building models.

The last month the Bosica Speedster kit was finally released (it's already reported here). The kit was almost abondaned after Mr. Bosica has worked on it for more than 15 years. The Japanese shop Raccoon contacted him, added missing parts so that it can be released as complete kit. Way to go Raccoon!

Here are the pictures of the kit on Raccoon site. I also took pictures of my kit. The kit is full of amazing parts; body is made by electroforming, the chassis, rear view mirror and license plate housing are pressed metal sheet (I think), front suspensions are made of brass by lost-wax process and linked with working steering wheel. Mr. Bosica seemed planning to have folding soft top, but it didn't make into the kit. I guess that's one of the reason the kit wasn't complete.

My 250 GTO on Contest Cars 2009 magazine

２ヶ月ぶりのご無沙汰です。ここのところずっと仕事が忙しく模型製作に時間がほとんど取れてません。来週からクリスマス休暇になるので一息つけそうですが、来年はさらに忙しくなりそうだといわれてます(泣)。本サイトでの製作記、ほとんど進展がありませんが一応更新は続けていこうと思ってます。

と近況報告は以上で。しばらく前に発売された「Scale Auto」誌の「Contest Cars 2009」に、GSL XXII(Part 1 / Part 2) に出展した フェラーリ250GTO の写真が載りました。やはり目立つカラーリングと250GTOという人気の素材が功を奏したのでしょうか。小さい写真ですが、本に載るとうれしいですね。

It's been two months since the last post. I've been quite busy at work and didn't get much time for model building. I'll have one and a half week Christmas vacation which will help to make some progress on my current project. But I was told we'll be even busier next year :( Oh well. That's my status.

A while ago I found a picture of my model at GSL XXII (Part 1 / Part 2) was on the magazine "Contest Cars 2009". I guess the subject and the color scheme helped itself to be picked up. It's a small picture but I'm glad to see my model got some coverage :)

Kirkland Concours d'Elegance 2009

9月13日にカークランド市で開催された、カークランド・コンコース・デレガンス 2009 に行ってきました。写真はこちらです。

駐車場に入っていくと、なんとマツダ・コスモ・スポーツがとまってます。寄っていってみると売りに出てました（値段不明）。メーン州のナンバープレート、ウィンドウに残る日本のステッカー。どんな経緯でアメリカに来たのでしょうね？会場入り口近くの業者ブースではベンツ１９０ＳＬにコルベットのエンジンを積んだホットロッドが展示されてました。

今年のテーマはメルセデスベンツだったようで、戦前のメルセデスが９台、300SL がクーペ、コンバーチブル合わせて１３台も集まりました。特に戦前のメルセデスの最高級クラス５４０Ｋが３台も、そのうち一台はなんとアウトバーン・クリエール！その向かいにはブガッティ・タイプ５７アラビス！超豪華な顔ぶれに大興奮。Vroom から出てるブガッティのキットを持っているのですが、キットでは４座、こちらのページの説明では２座となってます。室内の写真がネットで見つからなくて、どちらが本当かわからず困ってましたが、２座と確認できました。

今年はマイクロカーのクラスがありました。メッサーシュミットやイセッタなど代表的なモデルに混じって、フィアット・アレマーノ・アバルトなんて珍しいのもいました。ホンダＳ６００も展示してありました。あまりマイクロカーというイメージではないですが、排気量でマイクロカーに区別されるのでしょうね。スーパーカークラスでは、初めて実車を見るエンツォや２８８ＧＴＯがいました。そのほか珍しいところではイゾ・グリフォなんてのも来てました。

快晴の空の下、博物館モノの車たちを間近に見ることのできるすばらしい一日でした。

I went to Kirkland Concours d'Elegance 2009 on September 13th. The pictures are here.

Before entering the show, I found a Mazda Cosmo Sports in the general parking lot. It was for sale (no info on the asking price). It had Maine state license plate and several Japanese stickers on the windows. I wonder how this car came to United States. Next to the vendor booths there was a hot rod based on Mercedes Benz 190 SL with Corvette engine.

In the show there were lot of Mercedes, including 9 pre-war and 13 300SL Coupes and Roadsters. Among the pre-war there three 540K which are most luxurious Mercedes, and one of them was Autobahnkurier! In front of it was Bugatti Type 57 Aravis! I was so excited to see these extraordinary cars. I have the kit of the Bugatti from Vroom. The kit has four seats while this page says it has two. Finally I could confirm it's two-seater.

This year they had Micro Car class. Among typical micro cars such as Messerschmitt or Isetta, there was Fiat Allemano Abarth which seems fairly rare. Honda S600 was there among the micro cars. While I never considered it as a micro car, it indeed is in point of view of the engine size. In Super Car class I finally got to see Enzo and Ferrari 288 GTO in person. Another rare car to mention was Iso Grifo.

It was such a wonderful day I enjoyed museum class cars very closely under beautiful sky.

Seattle Italian Concours d'Elegance 2009

９月６日にシアトルの南、デモイン市で開催されたイタリアン・コンコースにいってきました。写真はこちら。あいにくの空模様で小雨、たまに晴れ間が見えるというお天気でした。入場料は５ドルなのですが、天候が悪いのでタダで入場させてくれました。ラッキー。

一番最初に目に付いたのはフェラーリ 250 TR。これは７月のイベントでも見た車です。持ち主は Jon Shirley 氏、去年のぺブルビーチのコンテストの優勝車、アルファロメオ 8C 2900 のオーナーでもあります。隣にあるのはアルファロメオ ジュリエッタ SZ ザガート（長い）で、６３年のルマン、６４年のタルガ・フローリオに出場したものだそうで、現在のカラーリングはルマンのときのものみたいです。ところで SZ は Splint Zagato の略のようですが、さらに Zagato がつくんでしょうか。

そのほかアルファロメオ ジュリアSS、2600 ザガート、ランボルギーニ ハラマ、ジャルパ、フェラーリ 166 スパイダーなんて初めて見る車や、実車を見るのは何十年ぶりやらのカウンタックもいました。デトマソ パンテーラのデザイナー、Tom Tjaarda 氏がモディファイしたワンオフのパンテーラなんてのも来てました。テスタロッサのオーナーさんは親切にもシートに座らせてくれました。


天気のせいでボンネット、ドアなどが閉じられていて、なかなかいい資料写真がとりづらかったです。それでも悪天候にもかかわらず車を持ってきてくれたオーナーさんたちには感謝です。

I visited Seattle Italian Concours on September 6th in Des Moines, WA. The pictures from the event are here. Unfortunately the weather wasn't ideal - mostly drizzling with few sunbreaks. Because of the weather, the admission ($5) was free.

The first thing I saw was the Ferrari 250 TR which was also there at the Pacific Northwest Historic event last July. The owner Jon Shirley has also the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 that won best of show at Pebble Beach Concours the last year. The one next to it was Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ "Zagato" which ran '63 Le Mans and '64 Targa Florio. The current car is in Le Mans livery. BTW I wonder why the name has another "Zagato" when SZ stands for Sprint Zagato.

There were many cars I see in person such as Alfa Romeo Giulia SS, 2600 Zagato, Lamborghini Jarama, Jarpa and Ferrari 166 Spider Corsa. It's been quite a while since I saw Lamborghini Contach last time. Another interesting car was the one-off De Tomaso Pantera modified by the original designer Tom Tjaarda. The owner of the Testarossa was kind enough to let me sit in the driver's seat.

I wish we had better weather so that I could take better reference pictures of these cars. I appreciate the owners who brought their cars to the show.

LeMay Museum Car Show & Auction 2009

8月29日にレメイ博物館 (LeMay Museum) で開催されたショーに行ってきました。写真はこちら。今年はショーのほんの一部だけですが、ビデオを撮りました。

去年行ったときは知らなかったのですが、コレクターズカーは展示目的で会場に停められるので、インターメカニカで入場しました。今年のフィーチャー・カーはクライスラー・エアフローで、クライスラーのブランドだったデソトのエアフローも何台か会場に来てました。デソトの凝ったデザインのグリルが印象的でした。

West Display Field では Terry Cassem さんが持ってきたイセッタとスバル360ピックアップ（サンバー）がありました。スバルにはなつかしのホンダ・モトコンポが載ってました。Terryさんはこのほか去年のショーで見たメッサーシュミットやキング・ミゼット、アンフィカーなども持っているそうです。そのほかいろいろある車の中で目を引かれたのはメルセデス３００ＳＬクーペでした。26年前にリストアされたということですが、きれいな状態を保ってました。

オークション会場は今年完成した White Building でありました。アメリカでは珍しいシトロエンやアウトビアンキ・ビアンキーナが売りに出されてました。シャトルバスに乗ってもうひとつの会場 LeMay Grounds にも行きましたが、こちらは去年と展示があまり変わっていないようでした。ほとんどが屋内展示で隙間なく停めてあるので、写真がきれいに取れないのが残念。

I went to LeMay Museum Car Show & Auction on August 29th. The pictures are here. This time I took video of part of the show.

This year I learned that collector's car can park at the show area, so I drove my Intermeccanica and parked there, saving hassle of parking at general parking lot and riding shuttle bus. The feature car of the year was Chrysler Airflow. There were about dozen of Airflows including ones of DeSoto
which was a Chrysler brand. I liked the DeSoto with very nice decorative grill.

In West Display Field were there BMW Isetta and Subaru 360 Pickup Mr. Terry Cassem brought. The Subaru had Honda Motocompo on its bed. Besides these two cars he also has Messerschmitt, King Midget and Amphicar. Among other cars at the field this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL coupe caught my attention. This car was restored 26 years ago and has been kept in excellent condition.

The auction was going on in White building that was just finished this year. I spotted Citroen DS21 and Autobianchi Bianchina which are rare in United States. I also went to LeMay Ground, the other show ground. The display didn't seem much different from the last year. Most of the display was inside of the building and cars were parked very close each other, so it was rather difficult to take good pictures.

All British Field Meet 2009

7月25日にベルビュー・コミュニティ・カレッジで開催された英国車のイベント、All British Field Meet に３年ぶりにいってきました。写真はこちら。

今年はモーガン創立１００周年を記念して、モーガンがいっぱい来てました。その近くには、シアトルの Liberty Motors という会社が作ったサイクルカー、ACE Cycle Car のデモカー３台がきてました。サイトの解説によると、イギリス製のサイクルカーを輸入しようとしたが、うまくいかなかったので自分で作ることにしたのだそうです。

そのほかには私の好きな MG マグネットが３台もきてました。そのうち一台は去年の LeMey 博物館のショーで見た個体でした。黒・赤のMG TC もすごくきれいでかっこよかったです。この間の Pacific Northwest Histrorics でみたジャガー XK120、XK150 やモーリスも来てました。

I visited All British Field Meet that was held on July 25th at Bellevue Community Collage. It's been three years since I visited the event last time. The pictures are here.

Many Morgans were there to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the maker. Near the Morgans, there were a few demo cars of ACE Cycle Car built by Liberty Motors in Seattle. According to their site, they decided to build their own cycle cars after failing to import cycle car kits from United Kingdom.

There were also three of my faviorte car, MG Magnette. One of them was the one I saw at the LeMey Museum event last year. Black / red MG TC was also a beautiful car. The cars I saw at the last Pacific Northwest Histrorics (Jaguar XK120, XK150 and Morris) were there.
