Allure of Automobile at Portland Art Museum

今年の6月から9月にかけて Portland Art Museum で開催された特別展示、Allure of Automobiles に行ってきました。写真はこちらです。展示車両が一部違いますが、2010年にアトランタの High Musuem of Art でも行われていたイベントです。

正面玄関を入るとアストンマーチンがお出迎え、次のホールにはフェラーリ、ポルシェ、ジャガー、メルセデス、そこから次の部屋への通路にプリマス、コルベット、タッカー、そして次の部屋には残り8台、と計16台の超豪華な顔ぶれでした。ほとんどがはじめてみる車でしたが、その中でも特にポルシェ550 と メルセデス540Kスペシャルロードスターが見れたのがうれしかったです。ポートランドまで3時間かけて運転して来た甲斐がありました。

写真集を買って帰ろうとすると、美術館の外で次の日の屋外イベント、"Cars In The Park" のための車が運び込まれてました。なんの車かさっぱりわかりませんでしたが、ネットで調べてみたらありました、Blastolene というグループが作った車だそうです。こちらのアルバムでイベント当日の写真が見れます。

I visited Portland Art Museum for the special exhibition "Allure of Automobiles" that was held from June to September 2011. The pictures are here. This exhibtion was also held at Hight Museum of Art in Atlanta in 2010 with slightly different set of cars.

At the entrance the Aston Martin was greeting the visitors. In the next hall Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar and Mercedes were there. Plymouth, Corvette and Tucker were in the hallway to the next room, and another eight cars in the next room. Out of these rare and beautiful 16 cars, I was especially glad to see the Porsche and Mercedes 540K Special Roadster. It was worth three hours drive from Seattle.

I bought the book of the exhibition. As I was leaving the Museum I saw few cars being prepared for the next day's event "Cars In The Park". I have no idea what they were at the time, and later found out in the internet that they were built by the group Blastolene. Someone uploaded the pictures from the event.

訳あって模型を作る気分になれず、本サイトも更新しなくなってから半年経ってしまいました。作るほうは止まってますが、車や模型に興味がなくなったわけではなく、完成品を買ったり、車のショーに足を運んだりはしつづけてます。

ようやく8月にあった LeMay Museum でのショーの写真をアップロードしました。訪れるのは今年で4回目、そろそろ目新しい車もなくなってきたのではないかと思ってましたが、そんなことはありませんでした。Borgward、Goliath、OTAS など、珍しいものが見れましたが、一番のサプライズはファシネイションでした。この車がここで見れるとは。このショーなかなか侮れません。

I haven't been in the mood of building models and six months have passed since I updated my main site last time. Although I haven't been building models, I'm still buying car miniature models and visiting car shows.

Finally I uploaded the pictures from LeMay Museum held in last August. This was fourth time I visit this show and I still see interesting cars I've never seen before, such Borgward, Goliath or OTAS. The most pleasant surprise was Fascination. I didn't expect to see this car at this show.

Delahaye 175S Saoutchik 1949 by Chrome

だいぶ前に入手した、Ilario の Chrome ブランドの Delahaye 175S Saoutchik 1949 です。鼻先がとがってて変なデザインだよなあ、と思ってましたが、Supercars.net の解説によれば、前年にデビューした Figoni e Falaschi の Narval と言う車からヒントを得てるとか。写真の角度から見ると波を蹴立てて進むボートのようで、なかなかよいデザインです。

モデルのフィニッシュは高品質で、クロームもきれいに磨かれてます。透明なステアリングホイールがきれいな円になってないのが残念ですが、それ以外は非常によくできているモデルです。この手の車は、今は無き HECO が得意としてましたが、Ilario が見事に継いでくれましたね。

This the model of Delahaye 175S Saoutchik 1949 from Ilario's Chrome brand. First I wasn't fan of the pointed hood which was inspired by Figoni e Faraschi Narval, according to Supercars.net. Then looking at the model as shown in the picture, it looks like a boat on the wakes of fenders. Very clever and attractive, I say.

This is very nicely finished model with lots of flawless chromes. Too bad the steering wheel looks like triangle, otherwise this model would have been perfect. Heco Minatures produced this kind of car and too bad they are no longer, but I'm glad that we have Ilario.

I've been using Network Solutions as the hosting service for the main web site (http://shibuyas.com/43). But recently I have few problem with the service, so I switched to a new service (Arvixe.com). The switch were supposed to be transparent, but I made some mistakes and pages were unavailable for a while earlier today. The switch should be completed now. Blade Runner Police Spinner by Mediacom Toy

先月 Hobby Link Japan で予約した、メディアコム・トイ製のブレードランナーのポリス・スピナーが届きました。ブルーレイディスクとのセット商品ですが、当然お目当てはスピナーのほうです。ブルーレイプレーヤー買ってこなきゃ（笑）。

スケールについての記述がありませんが、大体1/18スケールくらいのようです。シザードア開閉と、前輪の走行形態と飛行形態に変形のギミックがあります。内装は相当に大雑把で、ダッシュボード、コンソール、シートなどの位置がわかる程度です。それでもオフィシャルの版権の元でリリースされるスピナーのモデルはなかなか無い様で貴重です。

Few days ago I got the police spinner from the movie "Blade Runner" made by Mediacom Toy. I ordered this at Hobby Link Japan last month. This model comes with Blu-Ray disc, but first I need to get Blu-Ray disc player :)

There's no mention about the scale, but it looks like 1/18th. The scissor doors open and the front wheels can switch between driving and flying mode. The interior detail is minimal - dashboard, console and seats can be identified, but that's it. regardless of almost non-existent interior, this model must be appreciated by fans as there doesn't seem many models released under official licence.

EMC Horch 853 Voll & Ruhrbeck

しばらく前にリリースされた EMC のホルヒです。実車は 2009年のぺブルビーチ・コンコース・デレガンスで優勝しています。いつもならウクライナのディーラーさんから買うところですが、このモデルはアメリカの B&G モデルスの独占販売になってます。この B&G モデルスさん、どこに広告を出しているのかまったくわからず、YouTube のビデオでようやくメールアドレス(msbash@gmail.com)がわかった次第です。

モデルは相変わらずの超高品質です。前回入手した５４０Ｋスペシャルロードスターも凄い作りこみでしたが、今回のホルヒも、きれいに磨きこまれた数々のクロームパーツやモール、プレスで作られたと思しきバンパー、その上のリベットまで、とても量産品（YouTube のビデオによればオープンが200台、クローズが90台）とは思えない作りこみです。お値段も相当なもの(365ドル)ですが、これはここ数年のドル安も大きな原因ですね。

This is a model of Horch 853 by EMC I got a couple of months ago. The real car won Best of Show award at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2009. Usually I'd get EMC Models from a ukrainian dealer, but B&G models in USA sells this particular model exclusively. B&G models don't have web site and I had hard time finding information. Finally I found the contact information (msbash@gmail.com) in a YouTube video.

This another super high quality model from EMC. Mercedes 540K Special Roadster, the EMC model I got last time, was nothing short of amazing. This Horch is no exception and has tons of details which are not found in regular factory built models - beautifully polished chrome parts and trims, the bumpers look like pressed metal sheets, and it even has minute rivets for the bumper stays. It understantably carries one of the most expensive price tag (365 USD) for a factory built model, but part of it is likely because of devaluation of US dollar.

Reckless Models

以前に行った日本の模型店のことを調べていたら、福岡のレクリスモデルスが2009年5月に倒産してしまっていたのがわかりました。私が行ったのが4月中ごろなので、倒産直前だったんですね。レクリスはメインが超高級車ディーラーで、そのほか車の模型の店舗・オンライン販売とそのほか飲食店もいくつか持っていたようです。と、当時の写真をアップするのを忘れてたのでアルバムにあげておきました。

写真のモデルはそのとき買ったＭＲコレクションの Ferrari 250 Nembo クーペです。20%オフセールで 2万円ちょっとだったと思います。もうすぐ Looksmart からも同じモデルがリリースされますね（もう出たかな？）

While I was searching information about the Japanese car model shops I visited, I found Reckless Models in Fukuoka went out of business in May 2009. My visit was just a few weeks before they close the door. Their main business was exotic car dealer. Their model shop was right next to the dealership. Also they had few restaurants as side business. I uploaded the pictures of the shop here.

The model of this post is Ferrari 250 Nembo Coupe by MR Collection. It was bit over 20000 YEN after 20%-off sale price. Looksmart has released the same model recently.

Jacques Brauer's home was lost by fire

Miniwerks.com のフォーラムを見ていたら、オーナーのマイク・マコーミック氏の投稿があり、モデルビルダーのジャック・ブラウアー氏（発音違ってたら教えてください）が火事に遭って、所持品のほとんどが失われてしまったということです。階下の店からの出火だったそうです。

PayPal を通しての募金の呼びかけがあったので、私も小額を送りました。ブラウアー氏から返事が来て、昨日から模型作りの作業を再開したとのことでした。ブラウアーさんお大事に。

I found a post by Mike at Miniwerks telling that a master model builder Jacques Brauer has lost his home and most of the belongings by fire.

Mike suggested making donation through PayPal, so I sent a small amount to Jacques. I got reply from him saying he resumed working on models yesterday. Best of luck to him.

Hummingbird in snow

数日前にちらちらと今年最初の雪が降りましたが、今日はドカ雪で、毎度のことながらシアトルの道路は大混乱です。今年はラ・ニーニャ現象のせいで大雪になると早くから言われてましたが、そのとおりになりそうです。

写真はハミングバード・フィーダーにやってきたハチドリ。ハチドリってのは熱帯にしかいないもんだと思ってましたが、アラスカ南部くらいまでいるそうです。くちばしが特殊な形をしているので、えさが少ない冬の間は何を食べて暮らしているんでしょうね。

Few days ago we had first fall of snow. Today we had a lot and the roads in Seattle have been very chaotic. It's been said we'll have cold winter in Seattle because of La Nina.

In spite of the bad weather we have constant visits of hummingbirds. I thought they live only in tropics but their habitat goes up to southern Alaska. Their needle like beak makes me wonder what they eat during winter time.

Masaaki Sakai in Mille Miglia

今作ってるフェラーリ250モンツァの資料探しに 2008/2009 年のミッレミリアのビデオを YouTube で探していたら、なんだか見たことのある顔を発見（2分30秒あたり）。タレントの堺正章氏でした。写真（その１、その２）も見つかりました。確かに彼は古いイタ車のファンで、マセラティ150S などに乗ってるという話を聞きました。その昔は金斗雲に乗ってましたね（笑）。Born from an egg on a mountain top、ゴダイゴ懐かしー。肝心のモンツァの映像は見つかりませんでした。

この記事の写真は 1936年 Fiat 508 バリッラ ベルリネッタのダイキャストモデルです。Hachette というブランドからミッレミリアの出場車のモデルがリリースされてますが、そのうちのひとつ。製造元は台座の裏側の刻印によると Starline Models です。

While I was browsing YouTube for 2008 & 2009 Mille Miglia in whcih Ferrari 250 Monza participated, I found a familiar face (about 2:30 into the video). He's a Japanese actor Masaaki Sakai. Here are a couple of his pictures (picture 1 / picture 2). He's a big fan of Italian classic racers and regular participant of Mille Miglia. But I remember him best by the Japanese TV show "Saiyuki" (Monkey) in late 70's. He was riding on the cloud as the Monkey instead of Italian racers :)

The picture of this post is a die-cast model of 1936 Fiat 508 Balilla Berlinetta. It's one of the Mille Miglia car models by Hachette brand. According to the writing on the back of the display base, it's produced by Starline Models.
