 島根大は28日、カザフスタン・セメイ市(旧セミパラチンスク市)のセメイ国立医科大と交流協定を結んだ。旧ソ連時代に450回以上繰り返された核実験の被曝(ひばく)者への医療の質を高めるため医師を相互派遣するほか、福島第1原発事故で課題となっている低線量被曝について共同研究する。この日、島根大で調印式を開いた。

 核実験場が閉鎖された1991年以降も周辺でがん患者が増加する中、長年現地を支援してきた同大の野宗義博教授(62)=腫瘍外科=たちが仲介した。

 同大はがん専門医を現地に派遣して診断や治療、技術指導にあたるほか、現地の若手医師を同大に受け入れての指導もする。

 また、同医科大が保管する被曝者の資料やデータを活用。広島大原爆放射線医科学研究所(広島市南区)とも連携し、放射線被曝の影響や仕組みに関する共同研究も進める。

 協定調印後、島根大の小林祥泰学長は、同大が中国電力島根原子力発電所(松江市鹿島町)の10キロ圏内に立地することから「(放射線被曝の)正確な知識を蓄えることは非常に重要。医療での貢献と併せ、共同研究の意義は大きい」とした。

 同医科大のトレバイ・ラヒプベコフ学長は「広島と長崎で被爆を経験した日本の科学的な支援が必要だ」と今後の協力に期待した。

 両大学では、年内にも医師2人程度の相互派遣を計画しているという。(明知隼二)
