Dear friends,
Despite the mad rush that year's end inevitably brings, it is the one chance in the year that we get to communicate with many of our friends, and it is always a great pleasure hearing back from those who find the time to write. We are all well here. I trust this E-mail finds you well.

Photo 1: Another year, another milestone - I turned 60 in January. In Japan sixty is a very auspicious age, as one has completed a full cycle, traversing the 12 animal years of the Chinese zodiac through each of the five elements. It’s called Kanreki (還暦) in Japanese and one has to wear something red - hence the strange attire Yoko has draped me in.
Photo 2: I deliberated on how best to celebrate my sixtieth. Eventually I opted to jump out of a plane at 4.3km (14,000 feet).

空気圧は頬の筋肉をも押し上げるのですね。空中で屈託なく笑いながら両手でV sign するNigel は、いかにも彼らしい。
