63年9月25日水曜日、Jazz Club "Famingo" でのModsにとって歴史的なライブが記録された！そう、今回紙ジャケでついにCD化されたGeorge Fameのデビュー盤です。アナログでは高すぎてとても手が出なかった名盤をやっと入手できました。しかし、Modな定番「Night Train」から始まるショウはぐんぐん客をひっぱり、2曲目のレイ・チャールズのカバー「Let the good times roll」にして一気に最高潮、そのままオーディエンスを最後までひっぱちゃってます。いやー、すごいですね。63年でこのクールな選曲！モダーンズの教科書です。

シャトー・ラ・トゥール・サン・ボネ 2003

京橋ワインはmy fovourite shopなのですがともかくいいワインをがんがん紹介してくれます。かのパーカー氏が『5級格付けに匹敵する!!』というワイン、しかも1980円！！！....、旨かったです。是非お試しあれ。あと京橋ワインのサイトに訪れるときは注意を！なぜってとてもコピーが上手でついつい買っちゃいます。でもはずれなしです。

Mods 大好きレーベルUS Sue! ガイ・スティーブンスがやってたUK sueはこのUS Sueのアーティストを主に他のレーベルのアーティストもガンガン（無法的）にUKで紹介しまくっていたのですが、本家のUS SueはIke&Tina Turner、Jimmy MaGriff、The Soul Sisters、Inez FoxxなどModsが小躍りした小粋なR&Bクラブナンバー満載の、59年NYで母親の名前をとって作られたレーベルです。これはその偉大なるレーベルのコンピですが、これもそのままクラブでかけたら盛り上がり必至です。（今度の会社の忘年会でひっそりかけようかな...。）

modsが小躍りして聞いただろうシカゴのR&B名門レーベル"Vee Jay"のコンピレーションです。R&B、ブルーズなどのエバーグリーンな名曲の数々！Jimmy Reed、Jerry Butller、Billy Preston、Memphis Slim、Geen Chandlerなどなどよだれだらだら状態のコンピです。クラブでお皿回してるふりしてこれそのまま回してればいいくらいの（？）名盤です。ジャケもいいでしょ！

The Jam 記念すべき全英＃１シングル！しかし相当シニカルな歌詞なのに初登場1位とは...、当時のJamの勢いを感じさせるストレートなJam流ロケンロールです。これで全国区になったThe Jamは一気に解散まで突き抜けます。

Immediate 幻の名盤としての誉れ高いBilly Nichollesのファースト・アルバム！68年、マリオット＆レイン、プロデュースによる永久の名曲「Would you believe」をリリース、その後オールダムが打倒ビーチボーイズということでファーストをプロデュースするも発売されることなくお蔵入りになったらしいのですが、スインギン・ロンドンの雰囲気を持った輝くばかりの名曲群です。「Would you believe」のマリオットの合いの手は涙モンです。

私が最も好きなキーボーディストMick Talbotも最大級レスペクトするファンキーピアノの創始者、Horace Silver。
彼の独特のファンキー・フィーリング、ブルーズとラテンの織り成すグルーブはポルトガル人の父親とアフリカ系アメリカ人の母親の血ですね。小川氏のブルーノート・ジャズによればブルーノート・レーベル創始者ライオン氏からの依頼で録音時にオリジナル・ブルーズを必ず一曲以上入れるようにとのことで、これが彼の特色になって行ったそうです。

Modsのスター、Desmond Dekker! ポール師匠のMy Favourit Shop Itemでもあります。久しぶりに聞きながらググッてたら、何と2006年5月に64歳という若さで急逝しておりました。Rock Steady、Ska、Reggaeと、最も早くから、かつ長く活躍していたDekker、彼のメロウな声とやさしいリズムは永久にmodの心に刻まれるでしょう。ご冥福を祈ります。
