My life is going great.
さて、日本では全くやらなかったのに、ミネソタに来てからやるようになった事に一つに、雨どいの掃除があります。
So, there are some things that I learned since I moved to MN and I'd never done when I was living in Japan. And one of those thinsgs is cleaning gutters. LOL
日本では団地＆マンションに暮らしていたので、こういった家周りのメンテナンスはやらずに済んでいたんです。
I was living in an apartment building when I was in Japan, so it let me skip all of the maintenance chores around house.
が、ミネソタに来てからはラッキーにも家を持つ事ができまして、それに伴う様々なお手入れなどもやる事になりました。
Though, since I moved to MN, Andy and I luckily have owned a house and that taught me some new chores that every home owner has to deal with.
その一つが雨どいの掃除。
Yeah, like I just said, one of those responsibilities is cleaning the gutters.
この家に引っ越してきてから１年後くらいに、我が家の地下が一度浸水したんです。
Around 1 or 2 year after we moved to this house, we got a lof of rain in summer and our basement got flooded due to that.
原因はいくつかあるんですが、その一つが前に使っていた雨どいの大きさがが足りなかった事なんですねぇ。
There are multiple reasons why our basement got flooded, but one of them was that the old downpipes were not big enough to drain much rain at once.
その後、Andyっちが雨どいの大きさを大きいものに変えてくれたり、その他の問題を直して以来、幸い浸水はしていません。
After the flood, Andy replaced the old downpipes with bigger ones and fixed a couple more of problems. Since then, our basement hasn't got flooded yet.
ただ、まだ完全に心配は取り除けたわけではなく、今でも雨どりのメンテナンスには気を使っており、年に数回自分たちの手で掃除するようにしています。
Even though, we haven't got rid of all the issues yet, so we still pay extra attention to keep the gutters clean and do the cleaning some times a year by ourselves.
お天気の良い秋のある日
One nice day in fall.
家の玄関前から梯子をかけて屋根に上ります。
We put the ladder on the roof from the front of our house.
いつもと違う景色。
The same old view looks different on the top of the roof.
メープルの葉っぱが色付いてとっても綺麗なんですが、これが落ちてきて雨どいの中に溜まっちゃうんですよねぇ。
The maple leaves turned to be red and they look so pretty, but they get piled in the gutters and stop the water flow in the gutters when raining.
いつもゴム手袋を使って、手でつかんでバケツに入れて、バケツが一杯になったら庭の一角に捨てるというのを繰り返すんですが、今回はAndyっちが
We usually wear rubber gloves and grab the leaves by hand. Then, we put the leaves in a bucket and when the bucket get full, we dump the leaves on a certain spot in our back yard. But this time, Andy said,
「どうせ、もっと葉っぱが落ちてきて、あと何回かは掃除しなあかんから、今日は屋根からそのまま地面に落とすだけで良いで。」
"We're gonna have to clean the gutters a couple more times in a week or so anyways, so you can just throw the leaves on the ground today."
と言ってくれたので、面倒くさい作業が一つ少なくなったのでラッキーでした。
Yay! Lucky!! One less tiring step made my day so easier!
ちなみに、雨どいをカバーするような物もたくさん売られているんですが、Andyっち曰く
By the way, they sell gutter guards at stores, but Andy says
「う～ん、値段の割にあんまり役に立たんかったり、そのカバーをメンテナンスするのが大変やったりするねん。」
"I don't trust them so much and I heard it's kind of pain in a butt to take care of them too."
こんなやつね。

だそうで、我が家ではまだ採用されずに、手作業でやっております。
So, we haven't got any cover or guard yet.
まぁ、この日は簡単だったので、屋根に上ってから30分ほどで全ての作業が終了。
The cleaning that day was pretty easy and only took us 30mins to finish it.

After!!! (Appause!)
葉っぱはまだまだ落ちてくるので、また1、2週間後くらいに同じ作業をする事になりそうです。
Yeah, there'll still be tons of more leaves falling, so we'll have to clean the gutters again in a week or so.
いやぁ、ホームオーナーになると色々しないといけないから、大変ですな。
Oh well, being a home owner is not only about the fun part, but also about all the responsibilities.
