The Times Higher Education World University Rankings – the most widely cited and authoritative global performance benchmarks in the world – were published at 21:00(GMT+1) on Wednesday 3 October. View the Times Higher Education World University Rankings here.

The rankings are trusted and used by governments, university leaders, industry, faculty, students and their parents. 　この「英タイムズ・ハイアー・エデュケーション Times Higher Education（THE）」は10月3日に「世界大学ランキング2012-13」を発表したとのメールであり、早速中身を覗いてみると、1位は2年連続となるカリフォルニア工科大学、東京大学は3つ順位を上げ27位にランクインしていました。

　数ある大学ランキングの中で「英タイムズ・ハイアー・エデュケーション Times Higher Education（THE）」は最も有名な大学ランキングなのです。


　「THE」の評価指標は、「教育」「国際性」「産学連携収入」「研究」「論文引用」の5項目で評価されています。

　「教育項目評価」　⇒　教員当たりの生徒数や教員当たりの博士授与数
　「国際性項目評価」　⇒　外国人教員比率と外国人学生比率から評価
　「産学連携収入項目評価」　⇒　教員当たりの産学連携収入
　「研究項目評価」　⇒　教員当たりの研究収入や論文数
　「論文引用項目評価」　⇒　多くの他の論文研究数

　今回のランキングでは、
　　　1位：カリフォルニア工科大学　⇒総合得点（95.5点）
　　　2位：オックスフォード大学とスタンフォード大学　⇒総合得点（93.7点）
　　　4位：ハバード大学　⇒総合得点（93.6点）
　　　5位：マサチューセッツ工科大学（MIT）　⇒総合得点（93.1点）

　　　27位：東京大学　⇒総合得点（78.3点）前年：30位↑
　　　54位：京都大学　⇒総合得点（66.8点）前年：52位↓
　　　128位：東京工業大学　⇒総合得点（53.7点）前年：108位↓
　　　137位：東北大学　⇒総合得点（53.1点）前年：120位↓
　　　147位：大阪大学　⇒総合得点（52.0点）前年：119位↓


　特にアジアにおける大学（中国、シンガポール、韓国、台湾）の成長が素晴らしいです。
　　　　　北京大学：49位　⇒　46位
　　　　　清華大学：71位　⇒　52位
　　　　　シンガポール国立大学：40位　⇒　29位
　　　　　南洋理工大学：169位　⇒　86位

　昨年より３ランクあげた東京大学の問題点は、国際性（27.6点）と産学連携収入（59点）の2項目での差が大きいです。

　その点、29位に躍進したシンガポール国立大学は、国際性（92.3点）を獲得し、東京大学との差が著しいです。

　どこの評価でも指摘されている点は、常に日本の大学が世界ランキングにおける評価を上げていくためには、外国人教員比率と外国人学生比率を上げていくことであります。
