The fish so called poor man's Bonefish, it is a Mullet.
If you see this fish without 1/3 of the body from head you probably say that it is a Bonefish.
Here in Japan, almost every costal area you can see this fish especially city side Brackish water.
The Tsurumi river where is about 20mins drive from my home.
There is a water treatment plant so many mullets, carps and other spices there for feeding.

I mainly use something fluffy flies which is whitish, olive like, fluorescent yellow and orange with indicator.
Once fish take fly, you can really enjoy nice fight without paying so much money to travel southern islands.

At night, with my friend, we tried night shore fishing from rocks near Misaki.
There are some chance to catch bigger rockfish in this time of year,
but nothing happened.............

The fifth night with my friend who used to live in US, Gremany, France and Scotland.
This is the second time for him to try to catch the seabass by fly.
Last time was boat fishing but unfortunatly he counld not catch any fish.
Yes, I am a fishing guide tonight.
Take him around the Kehin canal and explain how to fish this season.
Tonight is almost last chance at this spring tide and not so many chance to catch,
becasue of the seaworms, they are getting less and less toward to neap tide.
The high tide was 19:22 and we started around 19:00 but very quite.
We saw same seaworm swim on the surface of water but fish is not so active.

Finaly at 20:34, he got the first ever seabass. It is not so big but should be a good memory fish for him.
Stayed untill 21:30 but ony one fish tonigh, we have to wait for next Spring Tide.

Third day of half tide
High tide: 19:20, 171cm

Unfortunately, yesterday was heavy rain, no fishing. Yesterday was last day of this Spring tide,
so today is the first day of half tide.
Just after the day's work, 5 mins work from my office and Hamamatsucyo Station,
it is my most favorite place, Kehin Canal.
Some rain but it is not so heavy, according to the weather forecast some chance of snow.
3 degrees centigrade, it seems like we need more days for real spring weather.
High tide is 18:12, about 30mins late there should be the beginning of nice down stream current
toward to the low tide.
Change my wears and get ready the fishing tackle, then start fishing in the dusk
but enough bright from city illuminations.
This fishing is just like trout fishing from the river bank, dry fly,
natural drift or sometime skating same as target to trout which raises on the surface of the stream,
but using floating seaworm flies in the middle of the big city.
Today's first fish is just after 5 mins, 20 inches which is the average size here at 18:45.
The time has come, here becomes a paradise.

Rise, Rise, Rise!!!
Cast fly! Drift on the current! The take on the surface! Hook up! Fight!

The third night of this Spring tide, warmer and no rain today.
Again same river with big expectation, Should be big seaworms outbreaks.
You know, Tokyo and Yokohama is really big city, like New York, London and Moscow.
Rivers and cannels are not so beautiful, all manmade structures, it is not really nice place
for usual fly fisherman.
But when it comes to dusk, it covers every dirty part, you see nice city illuminations and nice fish.
New York, you can catch nice Striper, London you can catch nice Pike and maybe Pike in Moscow.
SEABASS, here in Tokyo and Yokohama. If you are a lucky fisherman.
Tonight so many fisherman, all with spinning tackle with lure which is the imitation of seaworms.
Everybody thinks same, however no seaworms nor fish at all......
Nothing happened, maybe tomorrow!!

The second night of this Spring tide, cold and rain. Seabass fishing!
This time I tried small river in south of Yokohama which I used to go fishing this time of year.
Start fishing after the dusk, there was nice down stream current, but no seaworms nor fish.
Almost two hours fishing in cold weather but no result at all.
Maybe tomorrow!

It's time for Seaworm reproduction, Ragworm and Polychaete, best season for Seabass
fishing around Tokyo bay. These seaworms are very easy and good food for Seabass in this season.
Japanese Seabass goes down to deeper water of the sea in December, January for spawning.
After spawning they have not much energy left to chase small bait fish to feed but
these seaworms are very easy to eat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polychaete

During the New moon and Full moon is Spring tied, seaworms come out from sandy or
muddy sea bed and old oyster shell which is on the sea pier for reproduction.
Start fishing is after day's work and sunset, there is strong down current from high tide to low tide.
This strong down current is the key, seabass stays their favorite spot where they can eat these seaworms
which is swept downstream.
This is just like a trout, you can see fish take seawroms in the water surface.
Right middle in the big city like Tokyo and Yokohama bay, just 5-10mins walk from train station.
I have not much time to sleep in this season, walk around the Tokyo and Yokohama bay area every night.

A cold winter's day, it is a national holiday in Japan.
We held an another gathering at Ohzenji fishery near Yokohama with other guys again.
Until 1st of March river and lake fishing for trout near my home is still not open yet.
This fishery is also a Put and Take, buy three hours ticket and you can enjoy fishing
with newly released naughty fish
and some other sly fish which already have got a lot of experience.
Mostly rainbow trout as usual but occasionally Brown trout, Japanese Char and Japanese Hucho
you can catch if you are lucky or very skilled fisherman.
After fishing we had a luch meeting, talk, talk and laugh, laght, it was over 4 hours,
despite only 3 hours fishing. But we really enjoyed!!!
