I had not checked yesterday's weather, only worried about today's, as friends were chatting
over in sns last nigh worrying about weather in my home area. Luckily forecast said possible
light rain in the morning, fair and hot in the afternoon in Yamanshi are, so we decided to hit
mountain tributaries When we got to the main river of Fuefuki in Yamanashi, after buying our
breakfast and day tickets, we found the water was colored and high, and I understood yesterday
rain was pretty hard. Later my friend said 8 mm rain last night at this area. I know a couple of
mountain tributaries in this area and was still very confident we could fish at least one of these
tributaries in high mountain even in this kind of condition. First we checked upper stretch of
main river where I was thinking about to fish at the dusk. Fortunately water was still high but
colour was better and fishable, so we headed to one of my favourite tributaries as I originally
planned. Because of weather I thought no one there, but there's two cars, like us there's so
many nuts.

I wanted to start where I usually start as there's some very productive pools, but it seemed
like an old bait guy we met at parking already and still liked to fish for his tonight tapas, so we
started from right next to parking. The water was still high and coloured, it made difficult to
across the river. For a while, I did not fish and was just following my friend. No bite, so I went
up a little bit and tried to see if fish would bite dry flies in this condition. Soon a baby bit my
grizzly parachute, then a few more, actually I missed two.

When we got to the confluence I went up on right tributary where I have not had any good
result before. Amazingly fish were very active, as probably because of the sun between the
clouds shone for a while, soon I could catch two, then two more until the first weir. I silently
approached to the weir and carefully fished as much as possible the weir was unexpectedly
quiet, because rain started again? It's nearly noon so we dicided to back to parking for lunch
and coffee.

Stopped over road side shop, usually it's time for ice-cream in July and August as temperature
is easily over 30℃ at midday in the Kofu basin. Now the sun was shining and skies were blue,
it became hot but we still did not feel like to have ice-cream. I saw conditions were improving
however I knew we needed more clear water and the only solution was up and up the mountain.

At the next tributary, water was still high, maybe 10 -15 cm higher than usual, but was clear,
much better. Insects became active, were flying here and there as if were telling us fish were
starting and going to bite dry fly. Right next to parking, at the weir my friend landed a nice fish
after missing a few other fish. Yes, it seemed like fish got active too.

Hiking up and down the rocks along on the river while fishing is no so difficult, as you know,
adrenalin keeps you exciting, even if it was the first time for you to fish in rocky mountain
tributary, but climbing over the weir is a little bit hard work if you live in the city and not a
real outdoor guy. All weirs were very productive as it's open and can be easy approached not
scaring any fish, except one strangely no bite.

Down the river from the parking, I went a little bit further down along the river. All pools were
very productive. I got to a small pool between the rocks where was covered by over hanging
tree, at first cast a black shadow followed my fly and was about to take it. A real trophy, nearly
30cm was just a centimetre from surface, the breathtaking moment, unfortunately the fish
would not like my grizzly parachute which worked very well today and simply swam away in deep
and never up again. After coffee beak we were on our way home. I know I should come back
again soon to fool it.
