Indonesian wedding in Khor showcases unique traditions

Indonesian ambassador Air Marshal (retd) Muhammad Basri Sidehabi participated in an Indonesian traditional wedding celebration held in Al Khor recently. Hundreds of Indonesian expatriates, mostly working in the oil and gas industry, came from various parts of Qatar such as Doha, Wakrah, Messaieed and Dukhan to attend the grand celebration.


The marriage was solemnised between Bayu Aryadica Juartiyono, son of Juartiyono Sakino, with Andinny Razania, daughter of Agung Dharmawan.


The celebration was preceded by a procession of the marriage ceremony, wedding tausiyah, reciting Islamic prayer, and giving congratulations to the bride and groom as well as both of their families. The event was organised by the Indonesian diaspora, led by Edwin Kurniawan.


The marriage party was used to promote not only Indonesian wedding culture, but this event was also an opportunity for Indonesians and expatriates from various countries to meet each other. The celebration also featured traditional clothes as well as a variety of Indonesian cuisine.


Indonesian food from different provinces such as Satay, Meat Sop, Somay, Rendang, Indonesian traditional cake, Bakwan were offered to guests.


Ambassador Basri appreciated the wedding celebration as an effort to promote cultural diversity and culinary traditions of Indonesia. The former Indonesian Member of Parliament praised the role of the Indonesian community in Al Khor for their contribution to socio-cultural promotion.


He added that Permiqa has shown their important roles in supporting the mission of the embassy to promote good relations between the two countries, including their performances in various international festival in Qatar.


Head organiser of the event, Hermansyah Arsyad, expressed his satisfaction for the successful event. “We are very grateful for the team work and great co-operation among the Indonesian community that makes the event successful,” said the employee who works at Qatargas, and has been staying in Qatar for almost 20 years.
