The 1950s-vintage light fixtures on the Bass River Bridge have been replaced with eight LED lights through collaboration between the towns of Yarmouth and Dennis.
"Everybody's pretty happy with them," said Mona K. Solomonte, Yarmouth Department of Public Works administrative assistant. The lights provide better illumination as they beam directly down to the street level.

The bridge has been without lighting since the old fixtures wore out, she said. The towns have been working on the project for three years, trying to get funding from Cape Light Compact initially. When that effort failed, the two towns decided to foot the bill. The bridge is owned by the state Department of Transportation, but the lights are the towns' responsibility.
"It was a nice collaborative effort," Solomonte said. She worked with Wendy Pells, executive assistant to the Dennis town administrator on the project.
The new lights also will save energy for both towns, which shared the cost.
