Many retailers seeking cost savings on their electric and maintenance bills are flocking to their utility companies to take advantage of expert advice and incentives that allow them to make the switch inexpensively.
NOCO Express, which operates 32 convenience stores throughout the western New York region, has seen first hand the benefits of energy efficiency.
In December, NOCO unveiled a newly rebuilt state-of-the-art c-store across from Buffalo Niagara International Airport. The chain demolished the 1,600 square foot store that formerly occupied the property in September and replaced it with a 5,000-square-foot store, featuring green building technologies to reduce energy consumption.Great range of all types of outdoorlightmm, from novelty flying lantern packs to paper lanterns. “Talk to your utility companies and see what incentives they are offering,” advised Robinson. “The LED fixtures themselves are very expensive, and with the program we’re involved with, they’re paying us to put them in.”
Particular streets will have various upgrades and may have one or more of the following improvements to it such as raised medians, high-visibility pedestrian crosswalks onto Carlsbad Boulevard, flashing beacons, restricted westbound left-turns and pedestrian crossing warning signs.
“We are going to try to complete these improvements before the peak summer season,” said Bryan Jones, deputy director of the transportation department at the city of Carlsbad. “We have not identified an exact schedule yet but will communicate our construction schedule when we have it better defined.”
Jones said that he anticipates that the construction should last a few weeks and the city will do its best to minimize disruptions during this timeframe.
More than likely, the first part of the construction will include the median islands and it appears the sites will be constructed simultaneously.
Jones pointed out that the five future median islands, located at Oak, Sycamore, Maple, Cherry and Hemlock avenues, will have a great impact for beach-access pedestrian crossing.
“The pedestrian median islands will allow pedestrians to cross one direction of vehicle traffic at a time so that the pedestrians only have to wait for a gap to cross half of the roadway in one direction rather than the full roadway which is five lanes, 70 plus feet across, and 30 miles per hour in both directions,” he said.Riding a bicycle around the city at night can be a perilous pastime, but a new ledlighting003 could make life safer in the cycle lane.

City Council edited this agenda item before approving it. Initially, staff suggested the installation of three beacon LED lights at a given intersection going in one direction. The pilot project is funded by an award from an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), a funding program established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The EECBG grant is locally administered by the North Carolina State Energy Program. The project involves the replacement of existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights with comparable LED streetlight fixtures. Initial plans include the purchase of at least thirty-five LED fixtures.
The fixtures which have been approved for the bid are manufactured by GE Lighting of East Cleveland, Ohio; Leotek Electronics of Milpitas, California; Cooper Lighting of Peachtree City, Georgia; Holophane Lighting of Granville, Ohio; and Beta LED/Cree of Sturtevant, Wisconsin. All fixtures submitted for bid must have LM-79 and LM-80 reports. Respondents are also requested to provide information on how many fixtures are installed in the United States and the longest burn hours available for actual field installations.
