米東海岸に「爆弾低気圧」

A massive snowstorm roared into the

East Coast in the United States with

hurricane-force winds and flooding

that closed schools and offices.

The rapidly intensifying winter

storm, which weather experts call a

"bomb cyclone,” also disrupted

transportation systems, centering on

flights to and from New York and

Boston airports.


　猛吹雪が米東海岸を襲い、ハリケーン並

みの強風と水害のため学校やオフィスが閉

鎖された。

　気象の専門家が「爆弾低気圧」と呼ぶ急

激に発達する冬の嵐で、ニューヨークやボ

ストンの空港を発着する航空便を中心に交

通機関に混乱が生じた。

Japan's first test of a driverless

car on a public road took place in

Aichi Prefecture.

The autonomous minivan traveled

slowly along the 700-meter route,

stopping at a crossing when it

recognized pedestrians.

A member of the test team monitored

its progress from a remote location to

ensure safety.


運転手のいない車が公道を走る全国初の

実験が、愛知県で行われた。

　自動運転のミニバンが約７００メートルの

コースをゆっくりと進み、交差点では歩行者

を認識して停止した。安全確保のため、実験

の担当者が進行を遠隔地で監視した。

ペットの猫、犬を上回る

The estimated number of pet cats in

Japan has topped that of dogs for the

first time since the survey began in 1994.

　More elderly people are giving up on

dogs thinking they need more

attention than cats, like being taken

for walks, a pet industry expert says.

　全国でペットとして飼われている猫の推定数

が１９９４年の調査開始以来初めて、犬を上回った。

　犬は猫より散歩などの世話が必要と考え、諦める

高齢者が増えているとペット業界の専門家は話している。

　It was good to talk with you on the phone Mitsuo.

I appreciate your calls.

I make several trips this year as your remember;

Cuba,Baltic countries, Iceland, Spain and Myanmar,

I visited friends in California and New York.

This year I'm in Ann Arbor for the holidays.

I plan to visit friends in California in June.

On January 23rd I leave for Chile, Patagonia and Easter Island.

I'll be wishing you a Happy Birthday on January 29th-all the best in the year ahead.

(I'll be back on February 10, 2018).

How is all the family ; wife, daughter, son-in law, grand daughter, the Izenas…？
